Paul Juliano, President and Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), is a dedicated public servant with a career spanning nearly 30 years serving the people of Bergen County and throughout the Meadowlands.
Mr. Juliano oversees all aspects of the Authority, which has operational responsibilities at the Meadowlands Sports Complex, and other NJSEA properties, as well as mandates to protect the delicate balance of nature, provide for orderly development and manage solid waste within the over 30 square-mile Meadowlands District, which includes parts of 14 towns in Bergen and Hudson counties.
The Authority’s campus at Richard W. DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst houses its Land Use Management Department, Solid Waste and Parks Department, Meadowlands Research and Restoration Institute, and its administrative departments.
At the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, the Authority provides operational support for MetLife Stadium, the Meadowlands Racetrack, the Meadowlands Arena, and the American Dream entertainment and shopping complex.
In addition, the NJSEA works through partnerships with Ramapo College of New Jersey for school programs at the NJSEA Center for Environmental and Scientific Education and Bergen Community College for the operation of the Authority’s William D. McDowell Observatory.
Before being installed as President and CEO, Mr. Juliano served as the Authority’s Executive Vice President, where he managed senior staff in all matters. Immediately prior to joining the NJSEA, he held the position of Fairview Public Works Superintendent going back until 2008. In this role, Juliano fostered a climate of collaboration between the public and members of the Borough Council, and worked to build consensus in order to effectively resolve issues and provide better public service to residents. His responsibilities included evaluating projects, managing staff, budgeting, purchasing, fleet management, capital projects and code enforcement.
From 2008 until 2013, in addition to being the Public Works Superintendent, Juliano also served as Fairview’s Assistant to Administrator / Personnel. In this capacity, he oversaw all personnel matters across all borough departments, and excelled at delivering a constituent-based, highly responsive local government.
From 2003 to 2008, Juliano held the position of Director of Public Works at the County of Bergen. With nearly 300 staff members under his purview, he demonstrated exceptional leadership of several key divisions within county government, including Administration, Budget, Mosquito Control, Roads, Bridges, General Services, Engineering and Capital Projects. Juliano’s comprehensive understanding of public works administration and his ability to navigate complex organizational structures contributed to the successful implementation of numerous successful initiatives in the most populous county in New Jersey.
Earlier in his career, Juliano served as the Fairview Public Works Superintendent and Clean Communities Coordinator from 1995 to 2002. During this period, he played a pivotal role in maintaining the borough’s infrastructure while ensuring a clean and sustainable environment for the community.
In addition to his professional achievements, Juliano has made significant contributions through his involvement on various boards and commissions. Currently, he serves as a Board Member for Guttenberg Savings Bank and has held positions on the Board of Directors for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield from July 2020 to March 2023. Juliano’s commitment to civic engagement is further exemplified by his role as a Commissioner for the Bergen County Board of Elections from 2001 to 2007 and again from 2014 to March 2023. From 2009 to 2019 he served as a Commissioner for the Bergen County Utilities, where he helped provide management of Bergen County’s wastewater treatment and solid waste management services, and as a Trustee on the Bergen County Technical School Board of Education from 2008 to 2009. He also served on the Fairview Board of Education from 2001-2003.
Juliano attended Rutgers University Center for Government Services. He earned a license as a certified public works manager in 1997.
Juliano is a lifetime resident of Bergen County, where he still resides with his wife Rita and two daughters.
